Ex-member from Bossa-4, with whom he played ein
many brazilian cities and in the USA. Played with
the "Conjunto das Eternas Cantoras do
Radio" ( The group of the eternal radio
female singers ). ( Carmélia Alves, Ellen de
Lima, Nora Ney, Rosita Gonzales, Violeta
Cavalcante, Ademilde Fonseca e Zezé Gonzaga ),
with performances in the most theaters in Rio de
Janeiro. Played on several TV stations in São
Paulo in shows like Osmar Santos, Clodovil (TV
Manchete ), Jô Soares (SBT), and on TV Cultura (
Ensaio e Bem Brasil ). Played with a lot of
singers like Altemar Dutra, Carminha Mascarenhas,
the iatalian singer Franca Fenati, Herivelton
Martins, Miltinho, Paulinho Tapajós, Tito Madi
and Peri Ribeiro among others.

Marcelo Martins

Began his career studying flute in the orchestra
from Instituto Abel, in Niterói. Studied on the
Conservatório de Música do Estado do Rio de
Janeiro. In 1985, studied harmony and arrangemen
in Rio Música, with Sérgio Benevenuto . In
1987, recorded and performed as a sax and a flute
player in two releases with Claudio Zoli. Worked
also with Nico Rezende. Worked with Arthur Maia,
Nico Assunção and Ricardo Silveira, and with
Djavan, touring in Brazil and Europe. In the
meantime have been working with several brazilian
singers like Djavan, Gal Costa , Caetano Veloso ,
Gilberto Gil, Claudio Zoli, Flavio Venturini,
Lulu Santos, Zé Ricardo, etc...Have been playing
allover the world and in jazz festivals like the
Heineken Jazz Festival and the JVC Grande Parade
du Jazz na França.

Studied music on the Escola de Música
Villa-Lobos and graduated in musical theory and
perception. Studied sax with Idriss Boudrioua.
Graduated in harmoy e aarrangement in Rio
Música. Have been playing with several artists
of the brazilian popular music like Gal Costa,
Emilio Santiago, Simone, Jorge Benjor, Daniela
Mercury, Cássia Eller, Pepeu Gomes, Moraes
Moreira, Dorival Caymmi, Marina Lima, Orlando
Morais, Titãs, Rita Lee and recording with names
like Caetano Veloso, Fagner, Elza Soares,
Alcione, Xuxa, Angélica, Cauby Peixoto, Angela
Maria, Gabriel, o pensador, Lulu Santos among
others. In the instrumental music have been
playing with Luiz Avellar, Artur Maia, Vítor
Biglione, Torcuato Mariano, Paulo Braga, Léo
Gandelman and others. Also recotrdings and
playings with names from the brazilian gospel
music like Grupo Rebanhão, Carlinhos Félix,
Josué Rodrigues, Mattos Nascimento, Ozéias de
Paula, Cristina Mel. Currently give several
workshops in schools all over Brazil. |

Chico Costa
Soprano
e tenor saxes
Chico Costa studied saxofone with Idriss
Boudrioua and Nivaldo Ornellas and begann his
career in music in 1985, producing radio shows
for the Rádio MEC AM/FM. Worked among others
with the Orquestra de Sax, recorded with the
group Luz da Ásia and is a member of Teatro do
Som. Played with the reggae group O Rappa in the
Festival Sunsplash with whom he made also tours
and recorded with the band Rasta Joint. Played
with Daúde in Europa ( Montreux, Berlin, Nice e
Latin Jazz), in 1996, and in the USA ( SummerFest
- NY ), in 1997. Play also with the pop band
Espectro and the singer Eduardo Dusek. With the
guitar player Alexandre Santin created the duo
2Toiévsky and produced the CD "2Toiévsky
Toca Caetano" ( Visom Digital ), with
instrumental versions for classical songs of
Caetano Veloso. Since 1994 have been working in
his solo project "Melody Sax - Vol 1",
released in CD.

Cristiano Alves
Clarinet
Began his musical studies at 10 in the
banda of Colégio Salesiano Santa Rosa, conducted
by Affonso Reis, with whom he got a lot of
prizes, among others the first place in the
"II International Festival of Young
Music", in 1992 in Zürich ( Switzerland ).
won many prizes , like the competition for solo
players of the sinphony orchestra of the Escola
de Música da UFRJ, the first National Contest
Armando Prazeres" for young solists and the
Newcomer Prize from the Rádio MEC. played as a
soloist with the orchesters Sinfônica
Brasileira, Nacional, Petrobrás Pró-Música,
UFRJazz Emsemble and Orquestra de Câmara da
Escola de Música da UFRJ. Often records with
important names from the MPB. Presents regurlarly
abroadin countries like the EUA, Argentina, Peru,
Inglaterra, Suiçaa, Áustria and Portugal. First
assistant clarinetist from the OSB and from the
Orquestra Petrobrás Pró-Música. Bachelor and
Master degrees in clarintet from the Universidade
Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Currently teaches
clarinet on the Escola de Música da UFRJ. |

Marcelo Bonfim
Flute
Began
his musical studies at 11 and his flute studies
at 12 with Carlos Rato and Lenir Siqueira. At the
Escola de Música da UFRJ studied with Celso
Woltzenlogel, and graduated in conducting.
Bachelor in religious music at Seminário
Teológico Batista do Sul do Brasil. In
1980 specialized in the academy of the
Philarmonic Orchestra in Berlin, where he studied
with Andreas Blau and Horst Göbel apart from
have been playing with this orchestra as a
trainee in concerts conducted by Eugen Jochum and
Herbert von Karajan. back to Brazil, he was a
member of Quinteto Villa-Lobos from 1985 to 1989
and since 1977 work as the flute soloist from
Orquestra Sinfônica do Teatro Municipal do Rio
de Janeiro. Won many prizes, among others the
Concurso de Jovens Solistas da OSB in 1975, the I
Concurso Nacional de Flauta em 1978), I e II
Concursos Sul-América de Música (Rio, 1982 e
1983). Since 1993 teaches flute for several
children with the Suzuki method. Conductor of the
Maranata Choir since 1987.

Oficina, under conduction of Fernando Ariani.
Member of the Orquestra de Sax,with whom he
recorded and toured. Currently plays with Tomás
Improta, Marcos Amorim and Dodo Ferreira. Have
been playing also with the Orquestra Vitor
Santos, Quarteto Saxophonia, Grupo Xekerê,
Ronaldo Diamante and UFRJazz Ensemble. |

Natural
from Rio, graduated in flute at the UFRJ, and in
Professional Music (flauta e sax) at the Berklee
College of Music, USA. Played with the group
"A Barca do Sol". Toured in Europe with
his Quarteto Samambaia(1984) and with the singer
Luiz Melodia (1987). Played in Mexico and the USA
with the singer Elba Ramalho. Recorded in the USA
with the vibraphon player Victor Mendonza and
with Nando Carneiro. In Brazil recorded with Luiz
Melodia, Gal Costa Olívia Byington, Moraes
Moreira, Simone, Alcione e Caetano Veloso.
Performances in tv-shows with Emílio Santiago,
João Bosco, Nelson Gonçalves, Tim Maia among
others. Performance with the orchestra ______
Stevie Wonder at the 10º Free Jazz Festival, was
employed at Rede Globo and played as a saxophnist
in several concerts from the OSB and the
Brasília synphony Orchestra. Released his first
CD solo "Baladas Brasileiras"at Leblon
Records (1996), released in Europa by the french
Label Buda Musique and his second CD in 1999. |

Ronaldo Diamante

and acoustic bass
Studied acoustic bass with Rudolf Kruppa, as a
trainee at the Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira,
musical theory with Valéria Peixoto e harmony
with Isidoro Kutno. Began his carreer with the
group Hotel das Estrelas, in the 80-ties. De lá
pra cá, performed as arranger and composer in
shows and records of big names of the MPB like
Maria Bethânia, Marisa Monte, Elizeth Cardoso,
Adriana Calcanhoto, Eduardo Dusek and Moraes
Moreira. Performed in more than 30 soundtracks
for teather, cinema and TV, working with names
like Tim Rescala, Tomás Improta, Paulo Moura and
Steve Hackett, guitar player from the english
group Gênesis. Was employed at Globo Network,
teached at Musiarte e da Pro-Arte. IN 1997
released his CD JAIX bye the label Eldorado and
in 2000 the CD Charanga. Plays with the Quinteto
Tomás Improta, the composer Tim Rescala, the
group Garganta Profunda and the Quintet Solari
Jazz. Teaches bass and musical theory. |

Dudu Tucci

Born in São Paulo. He descended from a
musicians family which introduced him to
music at an early age. From childhood on he
participated in the Umbanda cerimonies, where his
drum called the orixá deities. After his school
exams he studied classical percussion, transverse
flute and musical science at Brooklin Paulista
Conservatorium in Sao Paulo. Extensive travels
across South America plus studies of a variety of
afrobrazian rhytms broadened his musical
horizon.After working with the composer Arriego
Barnábé Tucci decided to follow the invitation
for the international jazzfest in Berlin in 1982,
where he is living since then. Around 1978 Tucci
was invited to play as a percussionist at the
synphony orchestra of his home town At the same
time he met the reknown afro-brazilian dancer
Ismael Ivo with whom he started the
"Experimental Black Dance Group". After
his first recording Oduduá for the
electronic label Erdenklang in 1990
he changed to WeltWunder Records, where he
released four recordings up to date,
Obàtimalé in 1993,
Orishás in 1994 ,Native
Dreamer in 1996 and 'Tribal World' in 1997.
IIn the
meantime Tucci expanded his reputation by playing
major percussion festivals in South Corea and
Brazil as well as writing a book "Samba and
Sambistas in Brazil" together with Tiago de
Oliviera Pinto. |

Mingo Araújo

Born in Natal, is self-taught. Began his career
at 14 playing in frevo orchestras, at the circus
and in popular music bands. Highly procurado by
the record studios, Mingo played with several
names from the brazilian music like Gal Costa,
Gonzaguinha, Milton Nascimento, Caetano Veloso,
Wagner Tiso e Egberto Gismonti. Performances in
Japan, Estados Unidos, Europa Ocidental e
Rússia. In 199, after the recording sessions of
the LP "Rhythm of the Saints", toured
with paul Simon in his World Tour , with whom he
recorded an album performed at the Central Park
in New York ,"The Concert event of a
lifetime". Played also in the album
"Picture Perfect Morning". During 13
months, worked with Michael Brecker, Richard Tee
and Steve Gadd. In 1992, before he came back to
Brazil, recorded with Willie Nelson the album
"Across the Borderline" and played at
the Radio City Music Hall na entrega do Grammy. |

A very requisitado artist, worked with Gal Costa,

Buarque, Tomás Improta was already elected the
best keyboard player in Brasil by the Jornal da
Música" and abroad had praiseworthy reviews
after his presentations at the Montreauz
Festival. Work also with theater and cinema. His
soundtrack for the film"Bar Esperança"
was win-prized at the Gramado Festival . In the
last years have been working in his solo career
as an instrumentalist. Recorded a CD with
compositions of Béla Bartok using jazzy
arrangements, and another work with songs in the
style of the "cirandas" of Villa-Lobos.
In 1998 recorded the CD Certas Mulheres, with a
bossa-nova repertoire, his favorite music style. |

Self-taught, ex-mathematician (
interrupt his doctor studies in Mathematics in
Germany to devote himself to music ), ex-guitar
player, ex-percussionist, ex-sideman from several
singers and bands when living in Germany,
ex-resident of Berlim, considers himself
currently justa a jazz songs composer and produce
his CDs. His first CD "Sounds of
Watercolors" released in Germany and in the
USA in 1990 reached quickly the the jazz charts
and received many praiseworthy reviews, and was
played in "Heavy Rotation" . After his
second release "Lust, Comics & some
other Dreams" he stopped playing live and
made his first recording studio in Berlin.
Currently lives in Brazil and works in his own
studio in several projects of instrumental music
and songs , which he hopes to diffuse with this
site. Hopes to help and to be helped by all of
them that loves and support the good music. |
